The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of seven weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • May 15-18 - Victoria Day Speedfest - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • May 29-31 - St. LAC SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 18-21 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 24-26 - BARC Open Wheel Invitational - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 7-9 - Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres - Trois-Rivieres
  • August 21-23 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 18-20 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888R.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A – This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2026. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B – This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacturing date for the individual car, not the model, is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The third weekend of the 2026 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix weekend. Drivers collected points in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The pace lap for race one of the weekend, and nineteen Toyo Tires F1600 competitors prepare to enter Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s corner ten. On pole is the fastest qualifier, Connor Janeteas, driving the No. 44 Soyer Spectrum 015. Sharing the front row with Janeteas is Quebec’s Marc-Antoine Cardin, driving the No. 10 Cardin Motorsport Spectrum 015. Immediately behind the leaders are Cole Janeteas and the points leader, Jenson Raybould.
Connor Janeteas made his first 2026 appearance at the VARAC weekend. Although he missed the first two events, Janeteas was quick and put the No. 44 Soyer Motorsport Division Spectrum 015 on the pole for race one. He would lead all but lap one and win by a margin of 3.892 seconds. Janeteas led most of race two before a spin dropped him to a third-place result. He led the weekend's final contest until a mechanical issue caused him to retire.
The points leader, Jenson Raybould, pilots the No. 3 Brian Graham Racing Piper DL7. Raybould swept the previous event at Shannonville. He opened the VARAC Grand Prix weekend by qualifying fourth. Raybould ran as high as second before finishing fourth. He started a disappointing eighth in race two but charged to the front and grabbed the lead and win on the final lap. Raybould would take first place in the finale after battling with Marc-Antoine Cardin.
F1600B competitor Steve Bodrug kicked off his 2026 campaign with three class victories. However, his fortunes changed at Shannonville. Bodrug finished behind Mike Gayowski in two contests and failed to start the final race. In the series second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he was back on form. Bodrug opened the weekend by putting the No. 41 Van Diemen RF91 on the category pole and going flag to flag for the victory. He dominated the next two races.
Nineteen Toyo Tires F1600 competitors charge into corner one for race two of the VARAC Grand Prix weekend. Leading the field is the No. 41 Van Diemen RF91 of F1600B driver Steve Bodrug. The grid for the second contest was set by the fastest times in the first race. As luck would have it, Bodrug recorded the quickest lap. Behind Bodrug are the No. 44 Spectrum of race one winner, Connor Janeteas, and Marc-Antoine Cardin driving the No. 10 Spectrum.
The other half of the Soyer Motorsport Division was Cole Janeteas, who drove the No. 45 Spectrum 015. The VARAC event also marked his first appearance of the season. Janeteas qualified third for the weekend’s first race and passed Marc-Antoine Cardin on the final lap to finish second. On Sunday morning, he started sixth but battled to a runner-up result. In the final contest, Janeteas had contact with Jenson Raybould, which resulted in a flat tire.
Marc-Antoine Cardin was one of three Quebec drivers entered in the VARAC event. Cardin drives the No. 10 Cardin Motorsport Spectrum 015. He adapted quickly to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and topped the timesheet in the first practice session. Cardin qualified second for race one but lost the position to Cole Janeteas and finished second. The next morning, he was gridded second but finished sixth. Cardin ended the event with a runner-up result.
Former F1600B class champion, James Lindsay, made his first start of the season in the No. 35 Britain West Motorsports Van Diemen RF91. Lindsay was ninth fastest in qualifying and delivered a steady performance to finish sixth. His fastest lap in race one gridded him third the next day and he finished fourth. Lindsay started fifth in the last race, but a couple of retirements and clean passes were rewarded with a third-place result.
