The very popular Super Production Challenge for production vehicles debuted in 2011. It has attracted large fields as the result of affordable racing, which has, in turn, generated close competition and captured the imagination of fans.

The Super Production Challenge offers amateur drivers a semi-professional environment which Auto Sport Quebec sanctions. Most races range from thirty to forty-five minutes in length.

The 2023 season consists of five race weekends.

  • May 19-21 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • June 2-4 – Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • July 7-9 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 4-6 – Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivieres
  • August 25-26 - ICAR

The series controls costs by limiting performance and balancing the power of different vehicles using weight, rev limiters, intake manifold restrictions and adjustments to other components. Series rules allow modifications to the engine, brakes and suspensions. All cars in the series are required to compete on Nankang AR-1 tires.

Drivers score points in one of three classes – Super Production, Production or Compact.

  • Super Production – Introduced in 2019, the larger displacement vehicles with no more than 300-horsepower compete in the Super Production group. The performance of these two-wheel-drive vehicles is monitored by GPS. Models in the category must have been produced within the past fifteen years. Cars commonly found in this division include the Nissan 370Z, Scion FRS, Honda Civic Si, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and BMW M235i.
  • Production – Performance is also monitored using GPS for vehicles competing in the Production division. They are also limited to models fifteen years of age or newer. The maximum horsepower output for these four or six-cylinder vehicles is 220. Four-cylinder engines up to two-liters may be turbocharged or supercharged. Cars often found in this class include Mini Cooper S, BMW 330i and Honda Civic Si.
  • Compact - The Compact class, introduced in 2012, is for vehicles with less the 100-horsepower. They are also monitored by GPS and subject to the same product year range requirement as the Super Production and Production categories. Included in this group are the Mini Cooper, Toyota Echo, Nissan Micra and Mazda 2.

Rounds seven, eight and nine of the 2023 Super Production Challenge series were held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Chevrolet Grand Prix. Drivers would compete in three contests around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of the weekend’s first race for round seven of the 2023 Super Production Challenge. The No. 26 Krono Competition Ford Mustang Ecoboost of Charles-André Bilodeau is leading the field of forty-five competitors. Behind Bilodeau is Olivier Bedard driving the No. 71 Xtreme Motorsports Nissan 370Z. Beside Bedard is the Super Production points leader, Kurt Wittmer, driving the No. 66 Lombardi Racing Honda Civic Type R.
Todd Chiappino’s No. 14 Honda Civic Si is prepared by Velocity Motorsports Club, a group of Honda employees. Before the third weekend of the 2023 Super Production Challenge series, Chiappino had only finished on the podium once, which was round two at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. However, when the championship made its second visit to the track, he grabbed two victories and a second-place finish.
Winning the first race in the Production category at the Chevrolet Grand Prix weekend was rookie Alexis Jacques. Jacques drives the No. 63 Empire Motorsports Honda Civic Si with backing from TJL Transport. Incredibly, this was his first series start. Jacques earned two more podium results - a third-place result on Sunday morning and in the afternoon, he scored the final position on the class podium.
The Super Production podium for round eight of the 2023 Super Production Challenge series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Standing in the center, from the Velocity Motorsports Club, is the winner, Todd Chiappino. This was Chiappino’s second victory of the weekend. On the left is the runner-up, Oliver Bedard. The final position on the rostrum is occupied by Owen Clarke. Clarke collected two class wins at Shannonville.
Frederic Bernier joins the Super Production Challenge series from the Nissan Micra Cup. Bernier drives the No. 28 Hi-Fi Racing Nissan Micra Cup. He entered rounds seven, eight and nine with five podium finishes, one of which was a victory in the season opener. At the Chevrolet Grand Prix, he collected his second win of 2023 and another runner-up result. Bernier is currently second in the Compact standings.
Rookie competitor Cameron Nabert is dominating the Compact category. In the first six races, the No. 69 Fawn Group Motorsports Nissan Micra Cup driver has five victories. This trend would continue when the Super Production Challenge series made its second stop at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Nabert grabbed two wins and a runner-up result. He leads the class championship as well as the overall Rookie standings.
The round eight Production class podium for the 2023 Super Production Challenge series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. In the center is the first driver across the finish line, Blake Kelly. Unfortunately, Kelly completed a pass under the yellow and was penalized five seconds. The win went to Sylvain Laporte, standing on the left. Kelly was moved to second place and Alexis Jacques finished in the third position.
Quebec touring car veteran Sylvain Laporte is the 2021 Production class champion. He is driving the familiar No. 50 LAPSE Motorsports Mini Cooper Challenge this season. He has collected class victories in round two and race four at Shannonville. Laporte grabbed second and third-place finishes during the Chevrolet Grand Prix weekend. And inherited a win when Blake Kelly was penalized.
Product class rookie Blake Kelly drives the No. 41 Velocity Motorsports Club Honda Civic Si. He also shares the Honda with Scott Nicol. The rookie has two wins, collected at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Shannonville. A penalty in round eight prevented Kelly from claiming another victory. Nicol was behind the wheel of the car for round nine and ended the event with a Production category win.
The No. 71 Xtreme Motorsports Nissan 370Z is piloted by Olivier Bedard. After eight rounds of the 2023 Super Production Challenge series, the two-time series champion hadn’t collected a victory. The title contender finished second in the first two events at the Chevrolet Grand Prix weekend. In the finale, Bedard was first across the finish line. However, he was disqualified, but the team filed a protest and Bedard was awarded the win.
The Compact category rostrum for round eight of the 2023 Super Product Challenge series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Standing in the center is the winner, Cameron Nabert. This was the rookie’s sixth victory of the season, which provided him with a commanding championship lead. On the left is the runner-up, Steve Montminy, another rookie. The final position on the podium belongs to Zack Lalonde.
