In 2021, FEL (Franczak Enterprises Ltd.), an automotive learning and promotion company, expanded its presence in Canadian motorsports.

FEL saw an opportunity to revitalize and reinvest in Canadian car racing. As a featured sponsor, FEL's foray into the 2017 Toyo Tires F1600 Series resulted in fields growing from twelve to fifteen entries to over thirty cars in just three years.

The company is now making its mark in the Touring and Sports Racer categories. The FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada is for vehicles prepared to GT4, TCR and TCA specifications. Various models of the purpose-built Radical SR3 sports racers compete in the FEL Cup Canada.

Three classes participate in the FEL Motorsports 2023 Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin – GT4, TCR and TCA.

  • GT4 – These cars are prepared to the SRO (Stephane Ratel Organisation) GT4 technical specifications. The quicker of the two groups, this class includes cars such as the Ford Mustang GT4, BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG, Audi R8 and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Vehicles competing in this division produce between 400 - 450 horsepower and are capable of speeds over 175-mph.
  • TCR - This class is based on the global touring car category TCR. Vehicles racing in this group include the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, Honda Civic TCR, Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR and Audi RS3 LMS TCR. They use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which will produce between 300 – 350-horsepower.
  • TCA – Cars competing in this group have a minimum amount of modifications. Most changes are to improve the safety of the vehicles. Using turbocharged or normally aspirated power plants, these cars produce between 160 and 185-horsepower.

There are six events and each race weekend consists of two forty-minute contests.

  • May 19-21 - Canadian Tire Motorsport
  • July 15-17 - Honda Indy Toronto
  • August 4-5 - Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres
  • September 1-3 - Canadian Tire Motorsport

The first three rounds of the Sports Car Championship Canada were conducted at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest. Drivers would compete in three races around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

Midway through last season, former Toyo Tires F1600 front-runner Jack Polito took over the driving duties of the No. 22 Ford Mustang GT4. Polito swept the final round of 2022 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. This year he won all three rounds at the opener. Polito traded first place with Demi Chalkias in the first race but prevailed. In the next two contests, he went flag-to-flag despite pressure from Chalkias.
Two weeks before the Sports Car Championship Canada opening rounds, TCR competitor Justin Di Benedetto got some extra track time at the BEMC Spring Trophy Races. It must have paid off, as Di Benedetto was victorious in the very wet race one. He was gridded second in class for the next contest but was eliminated at the start after contact with Richard Boake. Di Benedetto finished fourth in the finale.
Another driver to sweep his category at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was TCA competitor Trevor Hill. Along with his brother Travis, a successful TCR competitor, they are the team principals of TWOth Autosport, a company specializing in race car preparation. This year Trevor is driving the No. 2 Crater Labs Honda Civic Si. The team has a second TCA car entered for Megan Tomlinson, who collected a third-place result.
TCR competitor Dean Baker has a wealth of driving experience. He has raced everything from F1600 to a Bugatti Type 51. Baker joined the Sports Car Championship Canada last season but only participated in a limited number of events. Driving the No. 52 A2Z Automobiles Audi RS3 LMS, he finished third in class Saturday morning. In the afternoon, Baker started on the pole and claimed the victory. In the finale, he won overall.
Louis-Philippe Montour competed in the championship's first season and finished second in the final TCR standings. Montour did not participate in the series last year but returned in 2023, campaigning the No. 29 Kamloop VW Golf GTI. In the wet round one, he finished second in class. In the afternoon, Montour collected another second. He could not hold off a hard-charging Richard Boake in race three and finished third.
Richard Boake is a veteran of closed-wheel racing. Previously, Boake competed in the Canadian Touring Car Championship, where he collected several wins. In 2021 and 2022, he competed in TCR, running a limited schedule. Last season, Boake was victorious in race one at Toronto's Exhibition Place. The driver of the No. 84 Betz Pools Audi RS3 LMS opened 2023 with mixed results – second, Sixth and eleventh place results.
