The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is an open-wheel racing series based in Ontario and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario region.

The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship calendar consists of six weekends, with each event hosting three rounds.

  • June 3-4 - SMP Cup - Shannonville Motorsport Park
  • June 16-18 - VARAC Vintage Grand Prix - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • July 29-30 - BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • August 19-20 - OSCC Summer Classic - Calabogie Motorsports Park
  • September 1-3 - CTMP Labour Day Weekend Sprints - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
  • September 16-17 - BEMC Late Summer Trophy Races - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The single-seater, open-wheel race cars in the championship are powered by one of two engine options - a four-cylinder, 1600-cc Ford engine or the 1.5-liter HPD Honda L15A7. Both motors produce approximately 120-horsepower. A mixture of European and North American chassis is used by competitors. Minimum vehicle weight is determined by the suspension design and ranges from 1050 to 1125-lbs. Teams are required to use a spec tire – the Toyo Proxes R888.

Drivers collect championship points in one of two groups.

  • F1600A – This category is for newer chassis’ built between 1995 and 2021. There are two engine options available the Ford or Honda.
  • F1600B – This group is for cars constructed before 1995. They are powered by the Ford engine.

The manufacture date for the individual car and not the model is used to determine the year split and whether a vehicle is categorized as F1600A or F1600B.

The fifth weekend of the 2023 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the CTMP Labour Day Sprints. Drivers would compete in three races around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course.

The start of the weekend's first event, round sixteen of the 2023 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship. Making an excellent start and leading a field of twenty-six competitors through Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's first corner is the No. 51 Spectrum 012b driven by Sam Baker. Behind Baker is Logan Pacza in the No. 64 Britain West Motorsport Mygale SJ13. Chasing the leaders are Conner Janeteas and Callum Baxter.
With another weekend of the 2023 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship, the rookie Logan Pacza has clinched the title. Pacza's record before the Labour Day Sprints included eleven podium finishes in twelve starts, of which ten were victories. During the fifth weekend of competition, the driver of the No. 64 Mygale SJ13 prepared by Britain West Motorsport collected another win and two runner-up results.
The No. 8 Van Diemen RF92 was entered in the F1600B category and driven by Sean Johnston. Johnston qualified ninth overall and second in class for the weekend's first contest at the Labour Day Sprints. An issue at the beginning of the race saw him fall to twelfth, but Johnston battled back for the F1600B victory. On Sunday morning, he collected another win. Johnston failed to sweep the event when he retired in the finale.
Callum Baxter has spent much of the season chasing his teammate Logan Pacza. Baxter won race two at Shannonville Motorsport Park and finished ahead of Pacza when he encountered issues at the BARC weekend. However, the driver of the No. 65 Mygale SJ14 would earn his best results of 2023 at the Labour Day Sprints. Baxter was victorious in races seventeen and eighteen, but Pacza prevented him from scoring a 'hat trick.'
Sunday morning and the start of the weekend's final contest. Britain West Motorsport teammates Callum Baxter and Logan Pacza occupy the front of the grid. Baxter is on the pole and in the No. 65 Mygale SJ14 and Pacza drives the No. 65 Mygale SJ13. Starting behind the leaders are Conner Janeteas in the No. 44 Spectrum 015 and the No. 51 Spectrum 012b driven by Sam Baker. Twenty-three competitors began the race.
Series veteran Steve Bodrug piloted the No. 41 speedprosignshop.com sponsored Van Diemen RF91. The F1600B competitor made his first start of the season at the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races, where he won all three races. When the series stopped at Calabogie, Bodrug collected two more victories. He initially struggled at the Labour Day Sprints but earned a runner-up result and a first-place finish in the final race.
Except for a DNF in race three at Calabogie Motorsport Park, Connor Janeteas has never finished worse than seventh and has finished on the podium four times. Driving the No. 44 Spectrum 015, Janeteas qualified fourth fastest for Saturday's race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and finished third. In the afternoon, he grabbed another third place and repeated this performance Sunday morning.
Sam Baker has had a year of mixed results. In the season opener at Shannonville Motorsport Park, he had two sixth-place finishes and a DNF. However, Baker redeemed himself at the VARAC event by collecting three runner-up results. He qualified and finished second in the weekend's first race at the Labour Day Sprints. The No. 51 Spectrum 012b driver followed this up with fourth and fifth-place results.
