The Nissan Micra Cup series made its debut in 2015. The championship was designed to provide racers with the most affordable new race vehicle in Canada. To keep costs down and to ensure all the Micras were equal the cars prepared by a single performance shop – Motorsports in Action.

The Micra is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine which produces 109-horsepower. For safety purposes, much of the interior (seats, door panels, etc.) is removed and a safety cage, five-point harness, window net and FIA-approved racing seat are installed. To improve the performance of the cars they are fitted with a racing suspension kit, high-performance brake pads, Pirelli racing tires and modified exhaust system.

In the first season, there were six race weekends - all being held in Quebec. The popularity of the series grew and in 2016, there were three events held in Ontario and five in Quebec. Now in its fifth season, the series opens in May on the Victoria Day Weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. This event is followed by races at Calabogie Motorsport Park and Circuit Mont-Tremblant in June and July. The championship then competes at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. The penultimate round is at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and the season finale will be held at Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park hosted the penultimate rounds of the 2019 Nissan Micra Cup championship. Drivers would compete in a thirty and forty-minute race around the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course during the Silverado 250 weekend.

The first lap of round nine for the 2019 Nissan Micra Cup championship and the pole-sitter, Marco Signoretti leads the field of fourteen competitors through Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s Moss corner. Following Signoretti is Jake Exton who has already moved from his third starting position to second place. Trailing Exton is Austin Riley who started on the outside of the front row and the fourth-fastest qualifier, Valerie Limoges.
Series rookie, Marco Signoretti has been quick since his first Micra Cup series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May. Signoretti entered the penultimate weekend second in the title chase. He had four runner-up finishes but no victories - that would change in rounds nine and ten. Despite pressure from Jake Exton on Saturday and Austin Riley the following day, Signoretti earned his first wins and took the championship lead.
Leading the title chase entering the penultimate weekend was Kevin King. In the eight-races contested to date, King had earned three victories. But it would prove to be a character-building event for the driver of the No. 40 Nissan Micra. A tired motor resulted in King starting fifth for race one. After a penalty for exceeding the track limits, he finished eighth. On Sunday, a spin on lap-2 contributed to an eleventh place finish.
Austin Riley lives with Autism and uses racing as a platform to raise awareness of this disorder. He made his series debut in 2017 and spent much of the season finishing mid-pack. With a couple of years of experience, Riley has moved up the results sheet. In round four at Calabogie, he grabbed the final spot on the podium. At CTMP, Riley’s weekend tally included qualifying second and third fastest and a runner-up finish.
In 2018, Valerie Limoges scored her first series victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Limoges entered the penultimate rounds third in the championship standings. Highlights of Limoges’ season included winning at Trois-Rivieres where she was the first woman to score a victory at the historic track. She started round nine fourth but finished sixth. After a terrific battle on Sunday, Limoges grabbed the final spot on the podium.
Frederic Bernier suffered a significant setback to his Senior Class (for drivers over 40-years old) title aspirations during round nine. On lap-8, a brake issue sent Bernier hard into the tire wall at Moss Corner. With the aid of his competitors, the Micra was repaired. During the Sunday morning qualifying session, Bernier was fourteenth quickest. Further improvements were made to the car and he finished eighth.
Sylvain Ouellet swept the Senior Class with victories on Saturday and Sunday. Ouellet was driving the No. 98 Automobiles S. Ouellet sponsored Micra started round nine in the seventh grid position and finished fifth. The following day, he qualified eighth and was in seventh at the checkered flag. Ouellet had moved into to within 16-points of the class leader, Frederic Bernier and stands sixth in the overall championship.
The round ten Nissan Micra Cup podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. In the center is the winner, Marco Signoretti. The rookie captured his first two series victory of the season and took the points lead with just two races remaining in the championship. On the left side of the rostrum is the runner-up, Austin Riley. Completing the podium and third in the title chase is the series veteran, Valerie Limoges.
