In 2015, the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) was in its ninth season. With sponsorship from Continental Tires, the series consisted of seven race weekends at five different tracks in Ontario and Quebec. The series opened in May on the Victoria Day Weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Following CTMP, teams would compete at Shannonville Motorsport Park, Toronto, Circuit ICAR, and Trois-Rivieres. The final two race weekends would see the championship return to CTMP and Circuit ICAR.

One of the series biggest changes in 2015 was the elimination of the B-Spec category and the return of Grand Touring. There was a Grand Touring class in the series first season. The championship has three different groups which compete in the same race.

  • Touring: This is intended to be an entry-level category. Vehicles competing in this class are allowed minimal performance enhancements. Engine, suspension and chassis modifications are not allowed. Changes can be made to the ignition and exhaust systems. Brake rotors can also be replaced provided they meet the OE specs. Manufacturers represented in this group include the – Mini Cooper S, Honda Civic Si, Acura RSX and Hyundai Tiburon.
  • Super Touring: Super Touring includes many of the same makes and models found in Touring. However, this category allows engine modifications, changes to the suspension, upgrades to the brakes and aerodynamic body enhancements. Additional manufacturers competing in this group include BMW and Porsche.
  • Grand Touring: The BMW M3, Porsche 996 and Ford Mustang are three of the most popular vehicles racing in this category. Like Super Touring, some changes and modifications are permitted. Cars in this class are typically powered by six or eight-cylinder engines. Of the three groups, these cars produce the most horsepower.

Rounds eleven and twelve of the 2015 Canadian Touring Car Championship were conducted at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Chevrolet Silverado 250 weekend for the NASCAR Truck series. Drivers would compete in two forty-minute contests around the ten turn 2.459-mile road course.

  • Twenty-one Canadian Touring Car Championship drivers prepare to enter Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s front straight in anticipation of the start for round twelve of the series. On the pole is M&S Racing’s Tom Kwok in the No. 9 Acura CSX Type S. Sharing the front row with Kwok is last year’s Super Touring champion, Roger Ledoux, driving the No. 1 Lachute Performance Subaru WRX.
Entering the penultimate rounds at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Tom Kwok, the 2011 Touring class champion, had not earned a single visit to the podium this year. He would correct that situation in races eleven and twelve. Kwok qualified sixth fastest in Super Touring driving the No. 9 M&S Racing Acura CSX Type S. He was in first place by lap-3 of race and held the position to the checker. On Sunday, Kwok led flag-to-flag.
Former Indy Car competitor, Alex Tagliani, joined Fasco Racing for the rounds at Trois-Rivieres and the series second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He drove the second GT class Ford Mustang Boss 302R entered by team principal, Glenn Chaplin. Tagliani would sweep the weekend – winning on Saturday and Sunday. He would also start on the class pole and record the fastest race lap in both contests.
The 2013 B-Spec class champion, Karl Wittmer, moved to the Touring category in 2015, driving the No. 82 Ste-Rose Honda Racing Honda Civic Si. Seeking to earn another title, Wittmer spent most of the season chasing Octane Motorsport’s, Alain Lauziere, for the points lead. At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he succeeded in closing the gap with first and second-place finishes. Lauziere finished fourth and fifth.
Scott Nicol succeeded in securing the 2013 Super Touring title. This year, Nicol and the No. 41 Honda Civic Si-R was not having a championship-winning season. To date, he had three podium results, none of which were victories. Adding to his stats, Nicol failed to finish three races. The second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park would be one of his better events as Nicol left with second and third-place finishes.
Local racer, Marlin Langeveldt, only entered two race weekends in 2015, both of which were at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He was unable to finish the round one, but in race two, Lageveldt captured his first Touring class victory. During the second stop at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the driver of the No. 7 Can-Saf Motorsports Mazda RX-8 racked up a runner-up result and his second win of the season.
Series veteran, Bob Attrell, drove the No. 88 Blanchet Motorsports Hyundai Genesis. Before the second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, his season’s highlight was a third place in round four at Shannonville. Unfortunately, Attrell failed to go the distance in four races. In the first race weekend, he captured his best finish of 2015, second place. On Sunday, Attrell was excluded for exceeding the maximum boost.
Paul Gravel joined Octane Motorsports in 2012, driving the No. 48 Mini Cooper S. In four seasons with the team, his best result was a runner-up finish in 2014 at ICAR. This year he claimed another second place in round two at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and finished third at the Toronto Indy. In race eleven of the season, Gravel passed his teammate, Carlos Tesler-Mabe, for the final podium position, but he retired on Sunday.
