MOSPORT - GT


The always spectacular BMW M3 GTRs dominated the GT category. The No. 42 Schnitzer BMW was the class of the field at Mosport. JJ Lehto qualified on the pole but the car failed tech so he and teammate Jorg Muller started from the rear. The pair moved up through the GT field and captured the win.

The No. 22 Alex Job entered Porsche GT3RS was the best of the rest in qualifying. The car was driven by Randy Pobst and Christian Menzel. They qualified behind the four BMWs and retired after ninety-two laps with mechanical problems.

The PTG BMW M3 GTRs sit in the pit lane prior to the Sunday morning warm-up. The No. 10 car was shared by Joe Foster and Nic Jonsson. Jonsson crashed the car and retired after a collision with one of the Schnitzer BMWs caused his tire to go flat. Hans Stuck and Boris Said drove the No. 6 car and took the final podium position.

Dirk Muller and Fredrik Ekblom drove the No. 43 Schnitzer BMW M3 GTR. The pair finished only six seconds behind their class winning teammates courtesy of a late race yellow flag caution period that bunched the field.

During the first practice session Max Angelelli driving the LMP 900 Cadillac collided with Bill Auberlen sending the BMW driver in to the tire barriers at corner nine. Auberlen was briefly unconscious and was not cleared to compete in the race. The car was repaired and Joe Foster filled his seat.
