MOSPORT - WORLD CHALLENGE TOURING


Pierre Kleinubing in the No. 1 Realtime Acura was the fastest qualifier but slid off the track at corner two on the first lap and fell to fourteenth. He worked he way his way back to second and on the last lap bumped his teammate Hugh Plumb in No. 43 just enough to get by and score the victory.

British Touring driver David Leslie joined the series for the 2001 season. The racing veteran started fourteenth in the Mirko Racing Mazda 626 and finished ninth.

Alfred duPont moved from his sixteenth starting spot to finish sixth. This earned the BMW driver the Borla Performance Award for the drive of the race.

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the TriPoint team. The No. 4 Mazda Protégé driven by Shauna Marinus started twenty-sixth and finished thirteenth. Her teammate, Paul Bonaccorsi, was injured when he had a nasty crash on the last lap.

Don Salama and Steve Pfeffer run nose to tail through Mosport's turn ten. Salama in the No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW 328i finished third and was followed to the checker by Pfeffer also in a BMW.

Chuck Hemmingson debuted his new Mazda Protégé at Mosport. He did well to qualify twelfth but retired with mechanical problems after twenty-two laps.

Taz Harvey brakes for corner three. Harvey was classified tenth after starting nineteenth in his Honda Civic Si.

BMW 328is driver Terry McCarthy sits on the grid ready for the standing start. He started and finished in the fifth position.
