SEBRING - WORLD CHALLENGE TOURING


2000 World Challenge Touring Champion Pierre Kleinubing captured the pole and victory at Sebring. The Acura Integra Type R driver dropped behind Will Turner at the start but was able to pass him on the tenth lap and win by less than a second.

Drew Hagestad qualified fifteenth in his Volkswagen Jetta. Problems during the race relegated him to a twenty-first finish.

Neal Sapp finished second in the 2000 World Challenge Touring Championship and earned the Rookie of the Year award. At Sebring he qualified fourth in the duPont Motorsport BMW 328is. Unfortunately, he retired after fifteen laps with mechanical problems.

The opening round of the 2001 season at Texas Motor Speedway was won by Steve Pfeffer. The BMW 328is driver was on a roll as he earned the final position on the podium.

Mike Fitzgerald joined the RealTime Team after contesting the 2000 season in a TC Kline prepared BMW. Here he locks up the rear brakes entering Sunset Bend. Fitzgerald qualified fourteenth and finished ninth in the Acura Integra Type R.

Will Turner made a great start from second place and led nine of the seventeen laps. He hounded race winner Pierre Kleinubing until the end finishing just .815 seconds behind.

For the 2001 season Ken Dobson replaced his Pontiac Sunfire GT with a BMW 328Ci. At Sebring he qualified eighteenth and finished thirteenth.

TriPoint Engineering entered two Mazda Proteges at Sebring. Shauna Marinus qualified twenty-third and finished twentieth. The No. 40 entry driven by Paul Bonaccorsi faired slightly better earning a fourteenth place finish after qualifying sixteenth.
