WATKINS GLEN - MOTOROLA CUP


The final position on the Super Grand Sport podium went to Terry Borcheller and Michael DeFontes. The duo started second in the No. 44 TF Racing Ford Saleen SR.

Joe Varde and David Amick had some problems at the Inner Loop during practice but it was a different story for the race. The duo won the event driving the No. 50 Viper. Varde also finished first in the Super Grand Sport driver's championship with Amick a close second.

Bob Endicott and Mike Van Sicklen had a spectacular race. The pair not only won the Sport Touring class but also beat the quicker Grand Sport entries. The Acura Integra Type R drivers finished one lap in front of the second place Sport Touring team of Andy Lally and Howie Liebengood.

The Phoenix American Motorsport Pontiac Firebird took the pole in Grand Sport. Stu Hayner and Mike Weinberg drove the car. They finished fifth in class at Watkins Glen.

On lap-46 the No. 9 Lexus GS400 lost control at the entrance of "The Boot" and clipped the tire wall, which caused the car to roll. Fortunately, no other cars were involved in the incident.

Doug Goad and Devon Powell qualified third in the Super Grand Sport category. However, the Corvette duo had problems during the race and finished forty-eighth overall and twelfth in class.

The Kowalski/Lassally Acura Integra GSR slides through the "Heel of the Boot" without serious consequences. The pair continued and finished sixth in the C2K class.

Paul Gargiulo and Peter Schwartzott drove the No. 56 Thornley Racing Acura Integra Type R. They were able to finish fourth in the Sport Touring class and nineteenth overall.

Number 41 was shared by Wayne and Will Nonnamaker. After some banging and bumping the brother's drove their Acura Integra GSR to a fifth place finish in C2K.

The Villacon International Sport Touring BMW Z3 Coupe was driven by Matthew Connolly and Alfredo Villamil. Villamil finished fourth in the final Sport Touring driver's standings and Connolly tied for fifth.

The Lowman/Zarcadoolas Porsche 944 S2 passes the No. 69 HART Honda Civic driven by Pete Halsmer and Bryan Johnson in turn one.

The No. 43 Planet Earth Motorsport Chevrolet Corvette was driven by Joe Nonnamaker and Phil Pate. They started fourth in the Super Grand Sport class and finished eighth.
