In fact the Powell Motorsports entry lapped the entire field and finished two laps ahead of the second place finisher in Super Grand Sports. |

Nascar Grand National competitors Lyndon Amick and Hank Parker Jr. made quite an impression on the road racing regulars by leading laps 31 to 41. Unfortunately, the Joe Varde prepared Super Grand Sports class Dodge Viper retired with transmission problems. |
| Third in the Grand Sport class was John Bourassa and Lance Stewart in Team Hurricane’s new Audi S4 twin turbo. This was quite an accomplishment as the car was prepared in only four weeks and started the race nineteenth in class which was well down the overall order. |

Mike Fitzgerald and Michael Culver were scheduled to drive a newly prepared Franz Blam Chevrolet Corvette C5 in the Super Grand Sports class. However, a blown engine on their first lap of testing forced them to enter last year’s BMW M3 which netted the team a second place finish in the Super Grand Sports class. |
| The Fiorano Racing prepared Porsche 993 of Mike McCalmont, Alan Wortzman and Darren Law qualified thirty-seventh overall. During the race the team was able to move up and finish second in Grand Sport and third overall. Their teammates Richard Spenard and David Shep captured the class victory. |

Pete Halsmer and Bryan Johnson finished just 4.39 seconds behind the class winning C2K entry of Ed Magner and Frank Del Vecchio. Their new Honda Civic Si was entered by Honda of America Racing Team, which was a collection of employees from Honda assembly and manufacturing plants in Ohio. |
| The duo of John Phillips and Paul Bonocarsi qualified sixth in C2K and forty-second overall. The story for the opening round of the series was attrition and that coupled with some good driving allowed them to finish third in class and eighteenth overall in their Mazda Miata. |
